If you are just getting started on YouTube, you may be confused over the kind of videos that you should be making on your channel.
You should get started on whatever niche that you find the most appealing to you and one that you would be interested in making videos about. If you aren’t interested in the video you make, you can’t expect other people to like the same video.
Basic Things To Avoid as a Newbie
This might sound a little contradictory to the title of this post but I believe that before I tell you on what to do. I might as well get started with common mistakes that most people make and what you shouldn’t really be doing when making videos for YouTube.
Here are 3 things you should avoid and take notice of when you are getting started.
1. Comparing yourself with others
When you are just getting started on YouTube, you might have been inspired by other big channels and when you start comparing yourself with your favorite YouTuber then you might really want the number of subscribers as well the engagements they get in their video.
But the first thing you should realize is that when they started out, they were the same as you. Someone who had an idea and who were willing to put a lot of efforts into making awesome and quality contents. Thus before you start comparing yourself with others, you have to remember they started same way as you, without much knowledge but someone that was passionate about creating videos.
Success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to be willing and be prepared to give in your full efforts. Your hard work will pay off later.
2. Never set Subscribers goal
If you are someone that checks to see every time if your subs count has changed recently then you should really not set a specific goal for your subscribers count. I believe doing this is pointless and if you have quality contents you will attract more subscribers organically.
When you are just getting started on your YouTube channel. Chances are that it may take some time before your content gets noticed by other people. When you start seeing your subs count everyday and see that nothing has changed, then that might bring in the negative emotions in you.
3. Not setting a specific niche
When you are starting to upload videos on YouTube, you may think about trying to upload different videos on many topics to get engagements out of a wide variety of audience. Now what you might fail to notice with this is when people subscribe to you, they did so because they liked the content that you made.
When they notice that your content is ever-changing and is totally random they might unsubscribe from your channel.
Consider taking an example of yourself, if you subscribed to a channel after watching a gaming video that you really liked. Now if the next thing the channel uploads is about sports then you might not really like it since you subscribed to the channel expecting gaming content.
Seeing that you have learned a little on things that you shouldn’t be doing. Now what you should do is focus are the things that you should be doing.
Right Things To Do
1. Consistently post videos
The number one tip that I can give you when it comes to making good videos on YouTube is to just get started and make videos. It doesn’t matter if this is your first video, just do what you think is correct and upload it. You may start to have thoughts like “this isn’t perfect” or “this is not what imagined it would look like” then you might never upload anything to YouTube.
When you are just getting started, it is alright to make mistakes because that is what you will be learning from. When you start consistently creating your videos. Then you will learn a great deal about creating the video that you had envisioned in the first place. Thus, more practice leads to you becoming an expert.
It is also good to set aside goals so that you can have a schedule on when you should post videos to YouTube. It can be anywhere from 1 video per day to publishing 2 videos per week.
Even if you aren’t 100% satisfied with the videos you make. It is alright because you will be making your next video much better than the last when you consider the mistakes that you had previously made.
2. Research your favorite movies, channels and other videos that you enjoy
If you are trying to make good videos, then the first thing you should be doing is watching contents that you find of quality. After doing this, you notice details about things that makes the video amazing. This way, you can start implementing the same strategies to your videos.
Researching the contents that you already like also gives you an inspiration as to different ways you could be making your own videos online. When you are faced with doubts as to how you should go about making your next video. Then this might be one of the best things to do.
When you do this, you can come to realize the exact thing you should be undertaking while making your next video.
3. Do SEO on your videos
The thing that makes the most difference when you are getting started on your YouTube channel is choosing keywords that you are going to be ranked for in YouTube. This requires for you to do some SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Which basically means that you should try and research keywords you will be using, it’s competition, it’s average search and also common trending topics right now. This is what determines where you will end up in the search.
So even if you have amazing contents that blows people’s mind away, YouTube has no way of indexing a video without keywords. Thus, it might be a wise decision to make sure that you are getting the most out of your keyword.
